Three Practices to eternal happiness

If I had to name the three things that helped me find out who I really am and how I can be happy, then these would be it: meditation, staying present and morning pages. My life got so much better as a result of using these in my life.

First of all we need to realize that too much thinking, is a hindrance to living a happy life. It's like your window is getting dirtied up with thinking all the time and you can't see where you are going. Meditation and morning pages are like the windshield wipers that take the dirt of your window so you see better, and conscious presence is the water that helps clean all the gunk stuck to your window. Since there can be so much dirt stuck to your window it takes time to clean it. All three practices help clear your mind of unnecessary thinking.

Here is how I use these practices every day. I get my thoughts on paper first thing in the morning, this helps me see myself better and it also helps me communicate with the divine presence in me. I ask questions and the answers come flowing through. It's a magical experience to see myself reflected on the page. I realise who I truly am and what exactly is going through my mind at that moment. After that I meditate. I get into my inner space and just observe my thoughts. Some pass by as clouds would, others take me with them in a storm. When I notice that happening, I gently pull myself back to the present. Practicing being present is a work in progress. Every time I catch myself not being here and now, I gently bring my awareness back. Often I loose myself in my thoughts, when I realise this I pull myself back into the now. I also remind myself that life is an up and down, inside out, around in circles game, and how we manage these moments is our own experience of consciousness getting in and out of the body. And also, it is getting easier with time.

In the end my advice to anybody is that practical application of spiritual concepts is necessary so you get better at life. Lofty statements don't realy work if they are not used in a practical way, and a good advice I read somewhere is, don't take yourself so damn seriously. Life is here to be lived and hopefully to have fun on the way. Brilliance is a state of mind.

With Love,

Jenny
